The childminder's day

Existing tools make you do all the writing.

Existing learning journal apps, paper notebooks, word documents. Every option asks you to type up observations after a long day with the children. Storage is solved. The actual writing burden is not. Kidella is built to fix that.

01

You can't type while caring

Traditional learning journal apps assume you have hands free and time to think. You don't. The observation gets postponed, then forgotten, then reconstructed from memory at 9pm.

02

Photos are a growing liability

The ICO Children's Code is clear. Minimise children's data. But every legacy app stores every photo permanently, with cross-child contamination, parent download, social media risk. You carry that liability as data controller.

03

Termly reports eat your weekend

Six children, three hours each, every term. That's a working day per child gone to writing reports from a year of fragmented notes. Your time should be with the children, not the paperwork.

How it works

Speak it. Review it. Save it.

The whole evidence cycle in under 30 seconds. You stay in control. The AI drafts. You decide. Tap through the steps to see how an observation goes from voice note to approved EYFS evidence.

1

Tap the mic, speak naturally

"Mia just stacked five blocks all by herself, then turned and showed Daisy how to do it." 12 seconds.

2

Voice becomes text in seconds

Speech-to-text transcribes your note. The raw audio file is deleted immediately. Only text remains.

3

AI drafts an EYFS observation

Suggests the right learning area, writes a parent-ready draft, flags uncertainty. Never decides for you.

4

You review, edit, and approve

Change wording, change the EYFS area, add detail, or reject completely. Only the approved text becomes the evidence record.

Privacy by design, not by promise

We don't store children's photos by default.

Most learning journal apps store every photo permanently. We don't. The photo is input, used to help draft your observation, then deleted within 24 hours. The permanent record is the approved text. No cross-contamination. No parent download spread. No regulatory time bomb.

Traditional learning journals

Built before the Children's Code

  • Photos stored permanently on cloud servers, indefinitely
  • Group observations put one child's photo in another child's journal
  • Parents can download and print every photo, taking it outside the controlled environment
  • Multiple consent forms required because the design itself creates the risks
  • Allergy and health data sit alongside everything else
  • Right to Erasure is a manual hunt through years of files
Kidella

Architecture is the answer

  • Photos used as input, then auto-deleted within 24 hours by default
  • Permanent record is the approved text observation, not the image
  • Per-child photo permission. Childminder cannot capture if it's set to "no"
  • Sensitive Data Vault separates allergy and health data, excluded from AI
  • Voice notes transcribed and the audio file deleted automatically
  • Built-in DSAR and Right to Erasure tools. Text is searchable, photos are already gone

"Personal data relating to children is afforded special protection in the UK GDPR and is a regulatory priority for the ICO."

Built for the new framework

Aligned with the 2025 EYFS framework.

Since January 2024, there are two separate EYFS frameworks. One for childminders, one for nurseries and schools. The childminder framework was updated in September 2025 and is now in full effect through 2026. Kidella is built specifically for that framework, with Ofsted's 2026 expectations baked into how the product works.

1

Less paperwork, more practice

The 2025 framework explicitly tells childminders that not everything needs to be written down. Inspectors want quality of practice, not folder volume. Kidella's voice-first, light-touch capture matches that direction.

2

Professional judgement, supported

You decide what becomes evidence. The AI drafts, you approve. Every observation is your professional record, not an algorithm's. The new framework trusts childminders as professionals. So do we.

3

Safeguarding-aware by design

Updated safeguarding guidance, Designated Safeguarding Lead expectations, and safer-eating documentation are reflected in how Kidella separates sensitive data and audits every record.

"For childminders, the 2026 update is often a relief rather than a burden. Not everything needs to be written down. This helps reduce workload and stress."

Honest answers

Questions you're probably about to ask.

No. Others stores every photo permanently and is built for nurseries with desktops. Kidella is voice-first for solo childminders working hands-on. Photos are temporary input only. The permanent record is text. Different design, different audience, different regulatory posture.
We're building a one-click PDF import so you can keep your existing learning journal as a read-only archive inside Kidella. You don't lose your history. We won't force you to abandon what you've built. We just give you a faster way forward.
Properly. Full DPIA before our first paid customer. UK-only hosting on AWS London. Sub-processor DPAs with every vendor. Data minimisation by default (no permanent photos, transcribed-and-deleted audio). Sensitive Data Vault separates allergy and health data. ICO registration ahead of launch. Privacy isn't a marketing claim. It's the architecture.
Never. The AI drafts. You decide. Every observation, every parent update, every report has to be approved by you before it's saved or shared. We don't make clinical, diagnostic, or developmental judgements. Kidella is documentation software, not a medical tool. You're always the qualified practitioner in the loop.
Yes. Kidella is built for the September 2025 EYFS framework for childminders, the dedicated framework that's now in full effect through 2026. The product is shaped by the framework's clear message: trust professional judgement, capture quality not volume, and reduce documentation burden where possible.

No. Parents receive updates via the web. No app install, no account setup friction. They can opt into a fuller parent portal if they want, but the default is frictionless email-based updates so even the least tech-confident parent is included.
